DETROIT (WJBK) -

Third Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow is facing formal charges from the Judicial Tenure Commission for allegations of misconduct in office over several years, including in the 2007 case of J.P. Orlewicz, who was accused of murdering and dismembering Daniel Sorenson in a thrill kill.

Daniel's father, James, said he still remembers Morrow wrongfully removing his family from the courtroom.

"We had every right in the world to sit in that courtroom and know what was going on," he said.  "As a personal opinion, I just don't think the man belongs on the bench."

According to the JTC citing ten cases, Morrow routinely favored defendants, went below sentencing guidelines and refused to lock up convicted felons.  There are charges of misconduct in office, conduct clearly prejudicial to the administration of justice and failure to personally observe high standards of conduct.

In all, there are 26 formal charges against the judge.  He has 14 days to file an answer.  There will be a formal hearing, and the Judicial Tenure Commission could recommend the Michigan Supreme Court discipline him.  That could include anything from public censure to suspension to removal from the bench.

The Judicial Tenure Commission had previously recommended a public censure for Morrow, but the Michigan Supreme Court called for more than a verbal reprimand, prompting the formal charges.
