CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Iditarod, a legendary sled dog trail race, is underway Monday morning!

Charley Bejna, a musher from west suburban Addison, is one of the 66 contestants competing this year.

He said he does not expect to win, but he is hoping to finish.

The race crosses nearly 1,000 miles through the punishing Alaska winter to the finish line on the Bering Sea Coast.

The winner gets a $50,000 cash prize - and a new truck.
