The switch to the new Ventra card will mean a price hike for some CTA riders but only for those who ride the "L", and use cash to buy single-ride tickets.
Those riders will be charged an additional 75-cents, making the one-way train fare $3.
People who use the new system will continue to pay the current price of $2.25.
The extra fees cover the cost of the new paper ticket that will replace the magnetic-strip cards.
