Woman pulled into van, sexually assaulted in Reston

Posted: Updated:
RESTON, Va. -

Fairfax County police are urging residents in the Reston area to be on alert after a woman was snatched from an apartment complex, driven a few miles away and sexually assaulted.

Police say the suspects are two men described as white or possibly Hispanic.

They say the men were driving a dark-colored van similar to an older model Plymouth Voyager.

The attack began at the Reston Glen Apartments on Laurel Glade Drive in Reston on Tuesday at about 11:20 p.m.

A 32-year-old woman told police she was walking through the complex when a man grabbed her from behind. She says he had a weapon and forced her into a van. She says a second man was waiting inside the van.

The van was driven to Green Range Drive near Emerald Heights Court, where police say the woman was sexually assaulted and then let go.

Police say the attack is especially troubling because of where and how it happened. They say the woman was familiar with the area and had no reason to think she was particularly unsafe.

Residents are being told to be on alert. Police say they fear the suspects could strike again.

It isn't known if security cameras at the complex or perhaps along the roadways captured an image of the van.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text "TIP187" plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
