A police pursuit in Fairfax County has ended in a deadly accident.
Officials say officers responded to a domestic situation at a home near Braddock Road around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
When they arrived, the suspect was outside and spoke with an officer before fleeing in an SUV.
Officers say the suspect drove for several miles in the wrong direction – heading east in the westbound lanes - on Little River Turnpike. The suspect was driving at high speeds and nearly collided with several cars on the road.
Police monitored the driver while following from the correct lanes on Little River Turnpike.
The accident occurred when the suspect, who was still traveling in the wrong direction, struck an officer who was responding to the scene.
The suspect died at the scene after their vehicle struck the Fairfax County police officer head on.
The officer who was hurt has been taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
The accident has shut down parts of Little River Turnpike at the Beltway in Annandale as police continue to investigate.
Only the ramp from the Beltway southbound to westbound Little River Turnpike is open at this time.
Investigators are looking for any other drivers that had a close call with the suspect.
