SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A cabdriver allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman in northwest suburban Schaumburg Sunday after picking up her and two of her friends from a bar.
The victim was with two friends when they called for a cab from a Prospect Heights bar early Sunday, Schaumburg police said in a release.
Eric Chung, 29, picked them up in a white Buick Terraza van with the markings "AAA Futura Taxi" but the women demanded he stop after he "started to act inappropriately," the release sid.
Two of the women were able to exit the cab at a red light, but Chung allegedly sped away as the third woman was trying to get out, trapping her in the van against her will, police claim.
Her friends immediately called police, and authorities traced the van to an office complex in the 800 block of East Algonquin Road, police said.
Schaumburg officers heard the 24-year-old woman yelling for help as they approached the van about 5:30 a.m., and allegedly caught Chung while he was sexually assaulting her, the release said.
Chung, of the 1900 block of Wong Parkway in Chicago, was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A judge ordered him held on $1 million bond Tuesday.
