Takoma Park police investigate fatal double shooting

Posted: Updated:
TAKOMA PARK, Md. -

The teacher of the month for December at the High Road Primary and Middle School DC was found dead in the driveway of his Takoma Park home early Sunday morning.

Police say David Draa had been shot and was dead on the scene. They also found the body of 30-year-old Steven Hickman in the driveway. He was dead with gunshot wounds too.

Investigators don't know exactly how it happened. That will be determined by autopsies Monday in Baltimore. Right now, police say this appears to be a murder-suicide.

"It's absolutely shocking," Neighbor Brian Higgins says.

Neighbors say Draa lived at the house, which has five separate units inside. He was seen and heard playing video games and talking with a friend. Witnesses say the two men went outside just before 2 am Sunday and that's when they heard at least three gun shots.

Draa was a teacher at the High Road Primary and Middle School in DC. The principal says they are working on a plan to help students and staff deal with his death.

Draa was also a former Marine and San Diego Police Officer.

Investigators have told neighbors they do not believe anyone else was involved in the shootings besides the two victims.
