A house fire along Leslie Avenue in Glenarden, MD claims a fourth life. Fire officials say 11 year old Daijah Price passed away in the hospital late Friday night. Her father Darrell Price Jr., and sisters 8-year-old Tania, and 4-year-old Patrice were killed during the fire Thursday morning. The children's mother and one 8-year-old daughter, Tania's twin, survived. That little girl told firefighters it was because of something she learned when fire officials visited her school. Prince George's County Fire & EMS spokesman Mark Brady says, "She learned how to do a home escape plan, shared it with her family and they practiced it. That's probably why she was not injured more critically than she was. She and her mom knew there was a second way out, used it and escaped safely."
Investigators determined the preliminary cause of the fire to be electrical in nature and say it was accidental. Firefighters did not find any smoke detectors inside the home. They will be going door to door in the county between March 1st and 10th, installing and checking on smoke detectors. They will also be visiting schools to reinforce the importance of creating a home escape plan.
