Hill-Murray football coach Mauer arrested in prostitution sting

Posted: Updated:

Hill-Murray High School varsity football coach Mark Mauer was one of 19 men charged this week in connection with an undercover prostitution sting at a Fridley, Minn. hotel.

The 54-year-old from Woodbury, Minn. allegedly answered an ad offering sex that was posted on Backpage.com and other websites. According to Fridley police, Mauer offered an undercover officer $100 for "full service" during the hotel sting. During processing, officers recovered $100 cash and some Viagra pills from Mauer.

Mauer's arrest was first reported by the Fridley Patch local news website, which says he is a cousin of Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer.

Fridley police booked four rooms at the LivInn Hotel on Central Ave. to set up the sting. In one room, a female undercover officer met with the johns, while officers monitored video surveillance from a second room across the hall.

Once an offer of money for sex was made, police moved in and made their arrest. A third room was used for processing each suspect and a fourth room served as a holding cell for the arrested men who were taken to jail in Anoka.

When FOX 9 called Hill-Murray for a comment on Friday, the school's athletic director was not yet aware of Mauer's arrest.

2012 was Mauer's first season as Hill-Murray football coach. He led the Pioneers to a quarterfinal appearance in the Class 4A state tournament.

The Hill-Murray High School football team webpage has the following welcome message:
