Suburban man gets 20-year sentence for role in drug ring

WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A west suburban man arrested in 2010 for his role in a California-to-Chicago cannabis ring pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Dorian Luzaj, 29, of the 6600 block of Winston Drive in Woodridge, pleaded guilty in DuPage County Court to one count of cannabis traffickin in exchange for a 20-year sentence, according to a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
Luzaj was the leader of a drug ring with California ties believed to be responsible for the distribution of more than 600 pounds of cannabis per month to dealers in the Chicago area, the state's attorney's office said.
Authorities arrested Luzaj and 11 others on conspiracy charges May 20, 2010, following the seven-month "Operation Chicago Haze" investigation, according to the state's attorney's office. Authorities also seized about $1 million, 11 vehicles and five weapons.
Luzaj will be required to serve 50 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He has been in custody since his arrest.
