New research: women wired to talk more than men

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Don't take this the wrong way ladies -- but women tend to talk a lot! Much more than us guys.

"I pretty much talk about 90 percent of the day," said Chelsea Langenderfer.

Growing up, guys figure this out early on, but now science appears to tell us why.

Turns out, according to new research from the University of Maryland, women have higher levels of FOXP2 in their brains. Scientists say it's a "language protein" that explains why women are more likely to gab away than men.

"Women are more connected to feelings and they more care about having those conversations connecting 1 on 1," Langenderfer said.

How about a man's perspective on who talks more?

"Does she talk more than you? Yes. "Do women in general? Yes...all the time," one guy told us.

"I hope it gets people talking about talking," says Dae Sheridan, a relationship expert and quite the talker herself. She says perhaps there's a happy middle ground in this gender speech-gap.

"I think we can meet each other in the middle it would be perfect, because I think we all need to be better listeners," she said. "Stop and say, ‘am I hearing what the other person is saying?' "

Because if not, you may be saying a little too much, but then again: "Life is not about getting to destination, it's about the journey," Langenderfer said.
