''Double-header' funeral service held for NY couple

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) - When Norman Hendrickson died while en route to his wife's funeral, the couple's daughters knew there was only one thing to do: Hold a double-header service.

Gwen Hendrickson of Cambridge was 89 when she died Feb. 8. Her services were set for last Saturday in her rural eastern New York hometown, where she lived with her husband of nearly 66 years.

The couple's two daughters tell the Post-Star of Glens Falls their 94-year-old father was being driven to the funeral home in a limousine when he stopped breathing and died soon after.

The daughters decided to have a wake that same day for their father, who was known for being frugal and for telling jokes. They posted a note at the funeral home's entrance that read, "Surprise - it's a double header."
