The School District of Philadelphia has announced several changes to its recently released Facilities Master Plan.
A total of 10 schools that were originally slated for closing will remain open for business.
The following schools will remain open and not merge with another school: Meade; Cooke; Duckrey; Morris; McCloskey; Lankenau; Gompers; Overbrook Elementary; AMY at James Martin; and Strawberry Mansion High.
Two closures were added to the list: M.H. Stanton and Beeber Middle.
Overall, there will be 29 building closures, down from the 37 originally proposed.
This afternoon, PCAPS' released a statement on the updated action plan. It read, in part, "PCAPS appreciates the effort by Dr. Hite to respond to the flaws in the School District of Philadelphia's original school closings plan, but the only way to fairly and thoroughly determine which schools should close is to implement a moratorium on all closings. The closing of schools should be a last resort once all other alternatives have been exhausted."
FOX 29's Claudia Gomez has more details in the video report above.
