Charles Walker Jr.
HILLCREST HEIGHTS, Md. -
Police say a 15-year-old boy in Prince George's County was killed in an attempted robbery over a pair of shoes.
Police say Charles Walker Jr. was a student at Suitland High School. He was found suffering from a gunshot wound Monday afternoon in the 4000 block of 28th Avenue in Hillcrest Heights, just two blocks from his home.
Walker was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Prince George's County Police Chief Mark Magaw says the case is progressing quickly and they are developing suspects.
A source close to the investigation is telling FOX 5 that police believe they will be making at least one arrest Tuesday night.
The source says a group of individuals spotted Walker as he was walking up 28th Avenue with a bag of shoes inside and announced a robbery. Walker did not hand over the bag and turned to run, and was then shot once in the back. The gunman never looked in bag Walker was carrying and the shoes remained at the scene after the shooting.
Relatives have said there was a pair of Timberland boots inside the bag and Walker was going to give the shoes to his girlfriend.
The Prince George's County school system released a statement calling the death "senseless."
