Authorities are investigating the death of a 92-year-old man in East Point.
Julius Dewberry was found murdered in his home on Jefferson Avenue last week. FOX 5 has now learned from authorities dewberry died inside the home from blunt force trauma.
According to the incident report, authorities were initially called to the home for a welfare check. A cousin visiting Dewberry found him unresponsive and lying on the couch.
"We do have a person of interest, but right now we're not sure if this person of interest is a possible suspect or somebody that could give us a little bit more information to help us with additional leads," said Major Tony Mabry of the East Point Police Department.
FOX 5's Patty Pan reports that Dewberry's wife had a stroke in 2011. Their daughter came down from New Jersey to bring her mother to a nursing home up north. She tried to get her father to go as well but he didn't want to leave his home. Just a few weeks ago, she came back down to try to convince her father to go back.
Authorities say there appears to be signs of forced entry and they believe robbery was a motive. They said they do not believe this was a random killing.
Gaynell Williams, Dewburry's sister-in-law, said that he was a World War II veteran. She visited him once a week, bringing him food, taking him to the store and the doctor. Williams says her family is heartbroken.
East Point police say they are waiting for crime lab results to come back before talking to the person of interest.
Anyone with any information is urged to call authorities.
