WASHINGTON -
Talk to anyone trying to kick start a business and they will likely tell you the process isn't easy or cheap. But the District is trying to step up its efforts to give those with dreams of owning a business some assistance.
Mayor Vincent Gray took his bi-weekly press conference on the road to profile Union Kitchen in Northeast D.C.
The kitchen allows small business owners who specialize in food to do their food preparation in a larger space with equipment they might not otherwise be able to afford. It's a space that several businesses can share at one time as they prepare their food.
Curbside Cupcakes is one business using Union Kitchen. Its staff bakes and prepares as many as 1,700 cupcakes each day.
Mayor Gray believes the partnerships with Union Kitchen and other similar businesses will help encourage even more startup businesses, which should lead to more jobs for District residents.
