DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

DeKalb County Public Safety Director William Miller is retiring at the end of the month, the county announced on Monday.

Miller has worked in DeKalb County for 29 years, starting as a patrolman.

He has been the source of controversy for months, as CEO Burrell Ellis and the county commission have battled over the need for the director's position.

In a statement, Ellis said Miller has been outstanding in leading DeKalb County's public safety efforts.
