WASHINGTON -
A wintry mix is falling in the Washington, D.C. metro area Friday morning.
To points just to the north and west of the District, we're seeing a combination of some snow, some sleet, and some freezing rain.
Also, some areas near Front Royal and Winchester, are seeing light snow.
This wintry mix is likely to continue for the next several hours.
Along the immediate Interstate-95 corridor, a bit of a wintry mix is expected. Mostly, it will be rain - a good steady rain – that makes for unpleasant travel conditions.
We are likely to be dealing with this for much of the day as this major storm moves through.
A winter weather advisory until 10:00 a.m. continues for counties that are just off to the north and west.
Those areas could see up to an inch, maybe 2 inches in some spots.
As always, take caution when driving. Road conditions will be slippery.
Tonight, a light rain will transition back to snow for parts of the area, particularly northern Maryland.
Saturday is expected to be a windy day with highs only in the upper 30s.
