A military drone, once mistaken for a UFO along DC highways back in June took flight Tuesday. The X-47Bdrone is the size of a fighter jet, and took off from the deck of an American aircraft carrier for the first time Tuesday in a test flight that could eventually open the way for the U.S. to launch unmanned aircraft from just about any place in the world.

WASHINGTON -

Crack open a book and it can take you on a journey around the world. But apparently quite a few Washingtonians already know that.

A new study from Central Connecticut State University says the residents of D.C. are more literate than their counterparts in any other city in America.

"They're wonderfully loyal to us and wonderfully loyal to the printed word in general," says Lacey Dunham of Politics and Prose bookstore on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest D.C.

The researchers measured things like: number of bookstores, access to libraries and Internet, newspaper readership and educated achieved.

Seattle came in second on the list. Minneapolis was third.

Readers we talked with agree it's rather ironic that D.C. would be named the most literate city in America when last year, 45 percent of public school elementary students were reading at grade level.

"It's terrifying. It's completely debilitating to realize that we haven't figured out a way to gauge the performance of our school system and our teachers," says D.C. resident Nick McCoy.
