25-year-old Chelsea Michelle Booth of the Eastport section of Annapolis is being held without bond, charged with smothering her two-year-old daughter to death.
Concerned neighbors called police when they hadn't seen the child for several days. Detective Amy Miguez says Booth first told police her daughter was with someone else. But she eventually confessed to killing her and dumping her body in a dumpster.
Friends say they are shocked, though one good friend tells FOX 5 Booth hasn't been herself in recent days and seemed "disturbed."
Police are trying to track the trash that was emptied from the dumpster where Booth says she left her child. That trash was sent to a transfer station and police are now searching a trash rail car in the Jessup area.
Booth has been charged with first and second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in death. She is being held without bail.
