Ja Mail Lewis, 37, is accused of driving drunk with his two young daughters in the vehicle.
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Police on Long Island arrested a man who was allegedly driving drunk with his two young daughters in the car.
The man's 14-year-old daughter called 911 on Wednesday night saying her dad was on a highway and was possibly drunk, said police.
Highway patrol officers spotted the vehicle a short time later on the shoulder of the westbound Long Island Expressway near exit 39.
Ja Mail Lewis, 37, was arrested and faces several charges including aggravated driving while intoxicated.
If found guilty, Lewis would be in violation of New York State's Leandra's Law which automatically makes it a felony on the first offense to drive drunk with a person 15 or younger in the vehicle.
Leandra's Law is named after Leandra Rosado, 11, who died in a car crash in 2010.
The driver, Carmen Huertas, was indicted on charges including manslaughter, assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.
