The Detroit Lions have released veteran defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and offensive guard Stephen Peterman. The 34 year old Vanden Bosch has seen his production decline and his salary cap figure increase.
Vanden Bosch had 3.5 sacks last season – his lowest total since 2009 – and his salary cap number for 2013 was scheduled to be over $10 million. He was also set to make a $2 million roster bonus.
The Lions saved $5 million towards the 2013 salary cap by releasing him.
Peterman, 31, was entering the final year of his contract. His release saves the Lions $2.65 million toward the 2013 cap.
