Nearly six months and more than 80 witnesses after it started, the Kilpatrick corruption trial is nearly over.

Sharon McPhail once called Kwame Kilpatrick a thug and accused him of trying to electrocute her.  She even ran against him for mayor, before he gave her a top job in his administration.

Kilpatrick now hopes this rival-turned-ally will bolster his defense.

Former Kilpatrick aide Derrick Miller testified last month that he handed bribes to Kilpatrick.

Today Kilpatrick defense attorney Jim Thomas asked McPhail to evaluate Miller's credibility.

Thomas: "What is your conclusion?"

McPhail: "I don't trust him. He didn't tell the truth.
"

Emma Bell testified early in the trial that she gave Kilpatrick kickbacks.  McPhail told jurors Bell wasn't trustworthy.

Thomas: "Was she a truthful person?"

McPhail: "No."

The prosecution did not attack McPhail's credibility on the witness stand.  Why? We asked McPhail.

McPhail to Elrick outside of the courthouse: "If the jury sees me ... they would not have liked it.

Today jurors got a sense of the dynamics in the Kilpatrick administration.  Mcphail testified she refused to report to chief of staff, Christine Beatty.

McPhail: "I wanted to get some things done, she was pretty much all about the politics
."

So far, McPhail has been the only big name to testify for the defense. They say they expect to put their last witness on the stand Wednesday, meaning jurors could get the case as early as next Tuesday.
