A 28-year-old man was shot by police on Staten Island Saturday night after he allegedly pointed a gun at police.
The NYPD said officers, identifying themselves as police, approached the man, who was a suspect in a home invasion robbery near Treadwell and Castleton Avenues in Port Richmond around 11:24 p.m.
Authorities say man fled and was pursued by the officers when he then turned and pointed a handgun at them. The officers fired two shots, hitting the man in the torso.
The man was taken to Richmond University Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.
One of the officers was treated for a knee injury and the other for tinnitus from the gunshot sounds.
Investigators recovered the shot suspect's .9-mm black Smith & Wesson handgun from the scene. The suspect didn't fire the weapon during the confrontation, according to police.
Charges against him are pending and police say he had 14 prior arrests.
