16-year-old girl rescued from smoke-filled home in Payne-Phalen
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -
The condition of a 16-year-old girl rescued from a smoke-filled St. Paul house on Thursday continues to improve.
The girl was found not breathing in a second floor bedroom of the house on the 900 block of Earl Street in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood around 3 p.m.
Firefighters arrived and began CPR, handing over care to paramedics and Regions Hospital doctors who arrived moments later. The girl began breathing again and was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul before being transferred to HCMC.
St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said Friday the girl is out of the hyperbaric chamber, in intensive care and improving at the downtown Minneapolis hospital.
The cause of the fire, which started in the kitchen, remains under investigation.
