Anne Arundel County Executive John LeopoldAnne Arundel County Executive John Leopold has resigned, days after being found guilty of misconduct in office.
Leopold announced in a letter released by his office that his resignation would be effective Friday.
On Tuesday, a circuit court judge found him guilty of two counts of misconduct in office. One of those counts related to Leopold using his security detail to perform political activities while on the job. The other involved making a secretary and members of his detail empty his urine catheter bag for months in 2010.
Leopold, a two-term Republican, wrote in a letter that it was a "compelling and humbling experience" to sit through two weeks of trial. He also acknowledged what he described as "serious errors in judgment."
