Parents Outraged Over School's Simulation Of Attack

CARY, IL -

A drill meant to train students how to react to a shooting drew controversy at a Chicago area school Wednesday.

Police used a pair of starter pistols, loaded with blanks to simulate gunfire inside the hallways of the high school.

During the exercise, teachers drew the shades and locked the doors of their classroom as officers swarmed the school and opened fire using the starter pistols.

The drill, held at Cary-Grove High School in Cary, Illinois, had parents upset.

Parents say organizers of the exercise could have conducted the drill without the use of guns. Some parents say they are worried the sound of gunfire could traumatize their children.

The district says the shooting was meant to help familiarize students with the sound of gunfire.
