LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles apologized Monday following a weekend where the running back got into a spat with his former girlfriend on Twitter.
"In light of the recent events that played out over Twitter this past weekend, I would like to express how deeply sorry and remorseful I am to my family, the Philadelphia Eagles, my fans, and every young person who views me as a role model," McCoy said in a statement issued Monday evening by his publicist.
The spat on Twitter started Saturday night when McCoy mentioned his vacation in Puerto Rico with his current girlfriend. The tweets apparently upset his former girlfriend, who responded over Twitter.
"This is not who I am as a person, nor the image I ever wanted to portray of myself. It's definitely not the example I want to set for my son," the statement read.
McCoy admitted his Twitter account was not hacked and took full responsibility for "trying to make it seem like it was not me."
McCoy said he takes great pride in being a good father. The Eagles player said he was "sick" that his actions caused pain to his son and anyone else involved.
"I have decided to handle this matter privately from here on out and I thank everyone for their continued support."
It feels like summer out there. We're expecting milder temperatures than yesterday: highs in the mid 80s. Just like summer, it'll be humid, with a chance of a few spotty showers during the day.
This pattern stays in place until Thursday, when strong thunderstorms usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
