DETROIT (WJBK) -- They are heroes risking their lives every day to save Detroiters, but even the heroes of the fire department's Ladder 22 can't escape a heartless crook.
It was last Friday. The men Ladder Company 22 stopped into La Rosita restaurant on McGraw Street just a few blocks from the fire house. They were picking up some food inside for just a few minutes. When they returned to the fire truck, they discovered two chain saws missing.
A firefighter did recover the larger saw at a local flea market. It is back on the fire truck. The Detroit Fire Department's identification was scratched out.
The other saw is still missing.
Firefighters are already battling budget cutbacks. There is no extra money to replace stolen equipment.
Fire trucks do not have locks on the side panels because the firefighters have to be able to get to that equipment within seconds.
The hope here is someone out there can donate a chain saw to the fire house to replace the one that was stolen.
