TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a large amount of gems stolen last year from a Tucson motel have been recovered.
Tucson police say the year-long investigation began last Feb. 7. That's when a vendor during the 2012 gem show reported nearly $1 million worth of gems were stolen from a locked trailer parked at the Motel 6.
Police say about 1,900 gems were stolen.
The gems were mainly rare Oregon sunstones and reportedly had a wholesale value of about $900,000.
Police say a large portion of those gems were recovered when two Tucson residences were searched Jan. 17 and Jan. 22 as part of the investigation.
No arrests have been made yet and police say their investigation is continuing.
