SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- Police are warning senior citizens to be on alert after a 90-year-old veteran fell victim to thieves, not once, but twice in just a few weeks.

The first incident was three weeks ago. Two women showed up at the victim's door on the 25000 block of Coral Gables, claiming to be relatives. They forced their way inside, and while one women distracted the victim, the other stole hundreds of dollars.

The next crook claimed to be a utility works checking for a gas leak. The victim went in the basement with the suspect, but couldn't back upstairs in time to stop him from running off with thousands of dollars.

"I started back up the stairs. This kid was going all over," said Mr. H., whose full name is being withheld. "I heard him running and he was I guess stealing stuff. Roughly $20,000 cash. That's all my savings."

The suspect is described as being a white man approximately 40-50 years old, with blond hair and between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall.

Anyone with information about the incident or other scams should contact the Southfield Police Department at (248) 796-5500.
