MLK Day events in the valley

Posted: Updated:

The nation honors civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday -- the same day as it celebrates the inauguration of the first black President to his second term.

In Atlanta, the King Center will host its annual commemorative service and in Arizona, a march in Phoenix from the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church to Margaret T. Hance Park took place at 9 a.m.

Once at the park, there was a re-enactment of the "I Have a Dream" speech.

In Mesa, there was a parade from University Drive to First Avenue that began at 11 a.m., followed by a festival  held at the Mesa Center for the Arts.
