Wanting to keep their children, students, employees, customers and residents safe, representatives from the public and private sector on Long Island are devising a plan to respond to mass shootings.
The seminar at Adelphi University comes in response to the massacre of 26 people including 20 children in Newtown, Conn.
The Nassau County Police Department's sixth 'Active Shooter' seminar on Friday focuses on creating a plan to deal with anyone who uses deadly force on people and has unrestricted access to additional victims.
On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School where he opened fire on students and staff after shooting and killing his mother in their home. Lanza later shot himself in the head.
The massacre is the second deadliest school shooting in U.S. history after the shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007.
Hundreds of people were expected to attend Friday's meeting.

Long Island environmental officials say they are looking for another alligator seen in a river. According to Newsday, state Department of Environmental Conservation say the gator was reported on Sunday night and was confirmed by officers on Wednesday. The sighting is the fifth in the same area of the Peconic River where DEC officials captured four alligators in April.
