Beverly Hills police responded today to a reported armed robbery at the home of actor Tom Cruise, but it turned out to be a hoax, authorities said.
Police sent to the 1100 block of Calle Vista at 11:51 a.m. searched the premises with private security personnel and found nothing wrong , according to Sgt. Renato Moreno of the Beverly Hills Police Department.
Cruise was not at the home and neither was any of his family, Moreno said.
The 911 call that was made is being investigated as "a false report of an emergency," a crime known as "swatting," Moreno said.
A 12-year-old recently was arrested on suspicion of committing swatting calls against Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber, according to entertainment website TMZ.
