Barry Milburn left Bryant Elementary School with his two children Thursday feeling a little bit better about security after new procedures were put in place in the wake of Monday's abduction of a five year old girl here.
"They are out of our sight for six hours a day. I want them to be protected like we would protect them," Milburn told FOX 29.
Milburn and other parents have been concerned about security ever since a woman entered the building Monday morning, went to the little girl's classroom and left with the kindergartner. The girl was taken to a home nearby, blindfolded and held overnight, then released. She was found clad only in a t-shirt at an Upper Darby park the next morning.
"I'm just sorry that a little girl had to get hurt because of it," Michele Milburn said.
The new security measures include security personnel at the door to check visitors in, a second hall monitor station, where the visitor must present ID, and sign in. The signature and ID will be thoroughly checked. Visitors will be given a hall pass and watched or escorted as they go to the main office. All personnel will now have radios to announce the visitor inside the school.
"They're going to communicate with each other and check to make sure everyone understands there's a visitor in the building and where they are supposed to be going," said school district spokesman Fernando Gallard.
"Everybody follows protocol now. They're more alert, paying attention to who is coming and going," said Shirley Silver, who's great grand son goes to Bryant.
Well known attorney Tom Kline now represents the five year old girl and her mother.
"What happened in that school just days ago is unimaginable and unthinkable," he told FOX 29.
Kline says the most important thing now is for police to find the kidnappers and bring justice to the girl and her mother.
Police confirm that the t-shirt the girl was wearing when she was found has been tested for DNA. They now believe the girl was carried by someone from the Cobbs Creek neighborhood, through Cobbs Creek Park to the park at 69th and Marshall in Upper Darby.
No arrests have been made in the case. Authorities are still trying to find the house where she was held. There is a $10,000 reward.
