Snow began falling in parts of Georgia late Thursday afternoon.

FOX 5's George Franco reports that a light snow began falling in Tallapoosa at the border of Georgia and Alabama just after 4:30 p.m.

Franco said that the snow was not sticking to roads and sidewalks, but was seen on trash cans and cars.

Motorists coming in from Mississippi and Alabama said that ice and snow had hampered traffic.

Highway officials said that there had be no reports of problems on Interstate 20 on the Georgia side due to the weather.

In Dalton, FOX 5's Doug Evans said that drivers dealt with bitter, heavy winds and rain. The FOX 5 Storm Chaser clocked steady winds at 15 mph. Doug said he saw some flakes but they quickly stopped.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is warning drivers use caution on roadways as the potential for winter weather approaches. Bridges, ramps and overpasses are especially prone to patches of ice, according to officials.

If you see winter weather, and it's safe to do so, snap a picture of video and send it to us!
