Long lines are becoming normal outside of flu clinics across the country as the flu has become widespread in several areas.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the flu vaccine is 62 percent effective in preventing the flu. Health officials say the vaccine takes up to two weeks to work, which means now is the time to get the shot.

Nearly 130 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed, and thus far, at least 112 million have been used.

Hospitals around the country report spikes in flu-related admissions and deaths compared to the last few years.

Health officials say this year's flu strain is particularly nasty, and has made people sicker for longer.

Employers are doing whatever they can to keep their employees healthy. Some are even handing out masks to employees.
