SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- The big headline on Monday will be the North American Car and Truck of the Year. 49 automotive journalists and analysts drove dozens of cars that are new or redesigned for 2013. They came out with a list of three cars and three trucks that are in the running for the coveted title.
First let's look at the finalists for Car of the Year. The Cadillac ATS is called an "impressive all around performer". It gets high marks for steering and braking. It's classified as a compact.
The Ford Fusion was first shown at last year's auto show, but is new for the 2013 model year. It's sportier and more upscale than older models. There is more room inside the vehicle, even though the outside is not much larger.
The Honda Accord is a family sedan. Edmunds.com says it has crisp driving characteristics and drives smaller than its size, which means it's easier to handle.
Ford also makes the cut in the Truck of the Year category with the C-Max. It scores high marks for having the passenger space of a compact SUV, but the fuel economy of a Prius.
The Mazda CX-5 is a new entry level crossover. It has an impressive list of standard equipment, alloy wheels and full power accessories and a four speaker sound system with a USB port.
The Dodge Ram 1500 is also in the finals. Edmunds picks it as a favorite with features unavailable in its rivals such as a power folding mirror, higher trim levels and a slew of tech features.
The voting is over. The winners will be announced at about 7:30 Monday morning.
