An Atlanta police officer was shot in the face after a chase with a suspect on Friday, according to authorities.
The shooting occurred in the area of Ralph David Abernathy and Lee Street by the West End Mall, Campos said. The officer responded to a report of someone selling drugs and ended up in a foot chase with the suspect, who at some point fired at the officer, hitting him in the face, according to Lt. Paul Guerrucci of the Atlanta Police Department.
Police said they detained a suspect on Victoria Court and are questioning him in regards to the shooting.
Gunshots were heard on Victoria Court, but it was unclear where those shots originated. The suspect was not injured, FOX 5's Justin Gray reports.
The injured officer was identified as 35-year-old Reggie Robinson. Officials said that he graduated from the police academy in November.
Robinson was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and is preliminarily listed in stable condition, according to Carlos Campos of the Atlanta Police Department.
Officers said the bullet entered Robinson's chin and exited through his cheek. He was said to be alert and responsive.
Colleagues of the injured officer gathered at the hospital to show support.
