ATLANTA -

Authorities say an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Valdosta State University student on Thursday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Darien Joseph Meheux, 18, was arrested by the Schley County Sheriff's Office in Ellaville, Georgia at around 11:30 p.m. They say Meheux turned himself when he became aware he was wanted for the murder Jasmine Benjamin.

Several law enforcement agencies were looking for Meheux in Gwinnett County when he surfaced in Ellaville.

Benjamin was found dead in Georgia Hall of the VSU campus in November of last year. Authorities say the cause of death was asphyxiation.

Authorities say Benjamin and Meheux are from Lawrenceville. It is not clear if the two knew each other.
