Ariz. food banks need citrus donations

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

Food banks are looking for citrus donations to help supplement food boxes with fresh, healthy food or to be used for juicing.

In order to keep up with record levels of citrus demand, food banks are asking for donations of your excess citrus, free of stems and leaves, from personal and neighborhood trees.

Arizona citrus is under USDA quarantine because of Sweet Orange Scab and is prohibited from being exchanged with out-of-state food banks for other produce items.

The citrus is perfectly good to eat and juice, the Sweet Orange Scab only affects how the citrus looks.

In response, some food banks started juicing a portion of citrus donations they receive.
