LOS ANGELES -

There's still a week to go before the much-anticipated season 12 premiere of "American Idol," but FOX 5's Paul Milliken got a chance to chat with some of the shows' stars in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

"Idol" host Ryan Seacrest said that viewers can expect to see fireworks with the panel, which includes new judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban.

"They come from individual sports, and now they're together on a team, and so you're going to get that kind of friction every now and then," said Seacrest.

FOX network executives say Carey and Minaj are passionate and have had some fiery exchanges at "Idol" auditions.

"Idol" mainstay Randy Jackson completes the judges' panel.

"American Idol" premieres on Wednesday, January 16 on FOX 5.
