NEW YORK -

Video posted online shows a brawl that broke out between runners competing in a relay race during an indoor track meet.

The incident happened at the 19th Annual Hispanic Games in New York over the weekend.

The event features competitions between high school track and field athletes from all over the East Coast. Over 6,000 athletes representing over 300 high schools participated in the event that took place in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.

The video begins as one group of sprinters hands off their batons to the next group.

After the exchange, the runners round the track and head into the final turn.

As the group approaches the finish, the two runners in the lead begin to fight after one of the sprinters grabs the other's jersey. Both runners spin to the track's infield.

The runner in yellow, who appeared to have the lead at the time of the incident, tried to make his way back onto the track when he was again grabbed by the runner in blue.

Several members from the two teams involved jumped into the fight before it was broken up.

It is unclear what motivated the fight or if any action will be taken against the runners.
