ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Athens-Clarke County police say nearly a dozen homes near the University of Georgia were burglarized during winter break.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/VN3YHE) police responded to a rash of burglaries that were reported after Dec. 14 - after many students left campus for winter break.
Police say burglars pried open windows, back doors and basement doors and stole electronics, jewelry, purses and cash, among other items.
Authorities say in one case, a burglar removed a birth certificate from a box and left it atop a bed. Police are unsure if the suspect took a photo of the document for identity theft purposes.
