Dunwoody police hope surveillance footage will lead to arrests in the army robbery at a McDonald's drive-thru window.
Authorities said the incident occurred early Monday morning at a McDonald's on Ashford Dunwoody Road near the Perimeter Mall. Two masked men ran from a spot behind the building to the take-out window as a customer was ordering food.
One man pointed a gun at the clerk and then both suspects vaulted in the drive-thru window, according to police. Once inside, the men took cash from a register and then left. The entire incident took mere minutes, according to police.
Investigators said that the person ordering food was in a dark sedan. They now say that driver is a "person of interest."
"It kind of set off the clerk to open up the window to unlock it. When they were in the exchange of money, two males come out from behind the bushes," said Sgt. Mike Carlson of the Dunwoody Police Department. "The driver ended up fleeing the scene once the suspects made entry into the business."
No one inside the restaurant was hurt. Police would not say how much money the robbers got away with.
Dunwoody police officers are comparing notes with the Sandy Springs department, where two similar armed robberies of McDonalds are under investigation.
Anyone with information on the crime is urged to contact Dunwoody police at (678) 382-6914.
