Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation Of Glendale School

Posted: Updated:

GLENDALE (CNS) - An anonymous bomb threat forced the evacuation of R.D. White Elementary School in Glendale today, but the campus was searched and no suspicious devices were found.

The call was placed to the school at 744 East Doran St. about 8:30 a.m., saying there was a possible bomb on campus, according to authorities.

Police and fire officials conducted a room-by-room search of the campus, which was declared safe late this morning, according to the Glendale Police Department.

The nearly 900 students at the school were evacuated to a Whole Foods parking lot at Lexington Drive and Glendale Avenue, and parents were advised that they could pick up their children at the store, checking in at the corner of California and Glendale avenues with proper identification, police said.

The threat came amid heightened security on school campus across the Southland in response to last month's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children were killed.
