Labrador Retriever that helped retired PGFD Fire Lieutenant Billy Mills rescue woman from a house fire in Bowie, Md.
BOWIE, Md. -
A retired Prince George's County Fire Lieutenant rescued a woman out of her burning home Friday morning in Bowie.
Firefighters were alerted to the house fire after 10 a.m. in the 16300 block of Pond Meadow Lane.
Prince George's County Fire and EMS says retired PGFD Fire Lieutenant Billy Mills was in the area of Pointer Ridge on the way to the store when he saw smoke coming from the house fire. He followed the smoke and arrived at the same time as the first arriving firefighters.
Mills conducted a check of the structure of the home, and with the assistance of the family dog he encountered at the house, Mills was able to locate an adult female inside. She was suffering from burn and smoke inhalation injuries. Mills pulled her out of the home and into the backyard.
The female victim was transported to a burn unit for treatment. Her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
