2 shot on I-94 in Detroit early New Year's Day

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Michigan State Police say a driver and his passenger were shot on westbound I-94 near Junction around 3:00 a.m. on New Year's Day.

They tell us the female passenger was shot nine times.  Both her and the driver's injuries are not life threatening.

Police say the driver told them there was a traffic incident after he and the female left the MGM Casino.  The victims noticed they were being followed before someone in a black Ford Expedition opened fire.

"People get mad when they get cut off or if somebody runs a stop sign in front of them or stuff like that.  Road rage is something that just sparks somebody's attention for different reasons.  We're not exactly sure what this particular reason was.  They didn't seem to know either," says Michigan State Police Lieutenant Michael Shaw.

Anyone with information is asked to call Michigan State Police.
