Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Christmas is over, and some people have taken down their holiday decorations. It may make the house look bare, but there is no need for that! Houseplants are a great way to keep your home looking lively!

Pike Nurseries stopped by Good Day Atlanta on Friday to fill us in the care of houseplants!

Repotting Houseplants and Outdoor Container Gardens

  • Benefits of Houseplants
    • Houseplants are a great way to decorate your home and give it some life
    • Most houseplants also help clean the air of toxins, making your home healthier
  • Determining Your Light
    • The only thing you need to know when you come to Pike Nurseries to select your houseplant is what type of light the plant will receive
    • There's an easy way to determine your lighting condition:
      • Take a piece of white paper and hold your hand about 8 inches above the paper
        •  High Light: If you can clearly see the shadow from your hand and it has some definition
        • Medium Light: There is a blurred shadow
        • Low Light: No shadow
  • Houseplant Options:
    • High Light
      • Citrus
      • Kalanchoe
      • Succulents/Cactus
      • Asparagus Fern
    • Medium Light
      • Orchids
      • Bamboo
      • Dracaena (some varieties)
    • Low Light
      • Sanseveria
      • ZZ Plant
  • Caring for Houseplants
    • Keep houseplants watered so that the soil is just slightly moist to the touch
    • Apply a good fertilizer like Bonide Liquid Plant Food
