Starbucks writing Come Together on cups to send lawmakers a message about averting fiscal cliff

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

It's a mocha with a message.

Starbucks workers will be writing on the cups served at Washington-area cafes Thursday and Friday.

The message is "Come Together."

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz says the idea is to motivate lawmakers trying to resolve the "fiscal cliff" standoff.

Starbucks also has an ad in today's Washington Post sounding off on the "Come Together" theme.

If there's no agreement between the White House and Congress, steep tax hikes and spending cuts take effect New Year's Day.
